365 Self-Portrait Project (week 35th)

First of all, I want to invite all of you to read my post at World Moms Blog about my Self-Portrait Project. It is called “(Self)Portrait of mother(hood)” and I talk in it about… hm… this project in general, and why I encourage mothers to be more brave when it comes to have their pictures taken… for the sake of the future generations.

Second of all, this post has A LOT of pictures, not only self-portraits but of the things and places that we’ve seen, done, and gone to. Without them this post wouldn’t be complete.

Friday:

New Hair Cut or Not… Thinking.
I am kinda tired of my I-Don’t-Know-What-To-Do-With hair cut. For years I had had short hair. Whenever they grew longer I would feel like there is nothing more boring than long hair and I would cut it again. When I met my husband he said he wish I would keep my hair long, and I did. Then I got really mad and frustrated with having to deal with my hair EVERYWHERE and I cut them. Since then they have grown again and again I’m in a spot where I hate it. I hate how they fall out, I hate to have them all over my clothes, in our food, and all over my kids. I hate to wear pony tail ALL THE TIME, too.

And I think: Cut it?

365/240

On Saturday we hit the road. 7 hours long road trip. When we finally got to our destination I stayed at the hotel room with NO. 2 while the husband took No.1 and went to chat with his parents.

365/241

Sunday was crazy. HOT AS HELL.

At some point me and the husband kind of split again. I’d stayed at the hotel room, feeding No.2 and taking a nap with her,

while my other half went outside to spent some time with his parents, taking No.1 with him.

Later that day, just before putting everybody to bed I took this picture.

We were teaching No.2 how to play “High Five” 😉

365/242

On Monday we hit the road again. This time it took as 12 hours to get back home. It was the most tiring trip I had ever experienced.

If a few years ago somebody told me I am going to hate road trips, I would laugh loud and long. I would say: “you freaking kidding me. I love road trip. I will never grow tired of road trips. NEVER!

If a year ago somebody told me I’ll be the most happy person on the earth seeing Denny’s sign, I would say: “You’re freaking crazy!!!”.

You may ask: why I don’t like road trips anymore?

So here is your answer:
[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2F3ZyfyJkHA]

and while you watch this movie imagine that you’re stuck in this car for about 9 hours… and you’re car sick, and you’ve got a headache so big that you can barely see what in front of you…

Somewhere in the middle of our trip we picked up Kid NO.3:

She is 11 weeks old.

She is NOT potty trained.

She is afraid of us.

She couldn’t walk on leash.

She is all what I DO NOT NEED at this point of our life.

but husband had waited for this puppy for over a year…

She is already a best buddy with No.1

No/1  is the main reason No.3 (her name is Magnolia/Maggie) has learned to walk on leash in a period of 2 days.

She sleeps in crate.

She is not potty trained, and every single morning we wake up to a smell of poop and pee.

So until she is fully trained, her place is in there.

The training is going pretty good, though.

During the day she doesn’t poop or pee in the house. Yeay!

and here are her mother and her brother:

365/243

This was taken after one of those mornings when my husband goes outside in order to clean up the crate and I go to the bathroom to wash the poop and pee off of No.3.

365/244

Play time.

No. 2 LOVES to play  “flying baby”. This is one of those moments when no matter how mad, sad, frustrated she is, when I pick her up and do the “flying baby” a big smile appears on her face, immediately.

Today we’ve had a several potty breaks. Doggy hasn’t had a single accident inside the apartment what makes me really happy!

and while we were playing I took a few shots of my little ones:

I wish you all super relaxing weekend, my friends!

I hope for more than 4 hours of sleep during those few upcoming nights…

Oh my goodness this whole post spoke volumes with me. I wish I lived closer I would zoom over and give you a massive hug and we could spend the day taking self-portrait images. I am a massive fan of self-portrait photography. Most of it is on my main blog which is very adult content but you can find the odd bit on my 365 project.

I remember when we got the dog too. It seemed like a good idea at the time, bit like the kids to be honest but then I realised it was just more and more responsibility round my neck while he pottled of happily to work every day in his freshly ironed shirts. Our marriage didn’t survive…. living him and finding a life that I can live was the best thing I ever did. I still have the kids and the stupid dog but now I live it for me.

Ps… I hate road trips too although hang in there because mine are older now and things have certainly improved in the last few years in that area

Your pup is so precious!! I hear you on the longer hair! It gets anywhere near my shoulders and I am desperate to get it cut off! This summer I let it grow so I could pull it off my neck, but off it came last week!

When I was 9 years old my mom cut my hair very short. Since then she had never let me grow longer hair then arm-lenght. she was tired of me screaming and crying every time she combed and washed them.

now, I’m used to having short hair and having long is just a pain in my behind!

Oh my … so many ‘moving’ photographs of what really matters in life. Every one made me smile. I especially enjoyed the photos of #1 with #3 – and of #2 lying in the grass. I so wish I had kept a photodocument of my family life when my children were young. You are creating a family treasure. Thank you for opening up your life and art to Photo Art Friday, Ewa.

Such a wonderfully refreshing, honest post, full of glimpses of your daily life.
I love all the photos, but the one of your daughter on the floor with the pup on her lap is precious.

I love this shot, too. It was right after we entered the house. New and strange place to the puppy. Immediately she started to look for some comfort in our daughter’s arms! so precious!

yeah… she is a hater when it comes to being in a car seat! No. 1 wasn’t like that. she would sleep the entire way we traveled. with this one it doesn’t matter if she is in the car for 5 minutes or for 5 hours. She screams from the start!

Once again your post was so moving and very interesting. Those photo’s of that Highway and the Denny’s sign were fabulous. I think we may all have memories of one of those types of trips but they do make us stronger people.
Your new puppy, Maggie is totally adorable and I loved seeing the photo’s of her and your other children. So happy to hear that puppy training is going well. We went through that with our little pug and it took her “forever” not to leave little messes inside. She still occasionally does but that’s only when we don’t pay attention to her barking to be let out.

thank you, Ida. This week so busy for me that I had to time to write anything else just this pots. I’ve got so many pictures of the places we went I wasn’t able to edit them all, so they are not here… and still this post is just filled with photos not related to Self-portraits.
and I agree, those kind of experiences make us stronger, and teach us more about ourselves and our kids 🙂
As for Maggie, she is doing just fine. She’ll be a great dog. She love our No.1 and No.1 just LOVES her!

I hate road trips too! 🙂 I remember we did a lot of driving on our vacation in New Zealand when the toddler was 7 months old. NEVER. AGAIN.

I do the Flying Baby with my No.2 as well, he loves it!

    Awesome pictures, as always.

    Have a great weekend.

thank you, Purnima! Somebody said to me that kids take a lot of woman’s beauty, and as I can say I was a pretty young lady, today I see how it fades away… but I don’t think it’s because of the kids… but the age! 😉

Wow, these are beautiful! I wish I could have some of my memories captured as beautifully, but I’m not exactly “one” with the camera. More like I’m “two” with the camera. Anyway, I love the shots of your new #3 – too precious. Thanks for such a great glimpse into the intimacy of your life.

BTW – HOW do you get those shots of yourself from across the room? Is it just a self timer thing or do you have some more sophisticated remote control deal?

    Reply
    1. Mom Photographer Post author

Kim, it just gets practice and a little bit of determination to get those shots of myself! sometimes I take 20 photos just to pick one worth keeping.
and I do use self-timer for my pictures I do not own remote. I rarely use tripod as well.

You have had a busy week! Hard to know about what to do with your hair. I never wore bangs and then somewhere along the line, I did. Now if I push them out of the way, I feel like I am all forehead!

I’ve got periods with bangs, and periods without them. it depends on my mood, I guess. I didn’t have them for the last year and a month ago I cut it myself… needed a change but wasn’t sure what kind of change… it didn’t satisfy me so, I guess, I’ll be thinking about making more drastic change!

Marilyn, the puppy is too cute! It’s hard not to like it!
It’s getting better with the work, though. As a dog from a good line she is very smart and learn very quick, it’s amazing to watch her!

Oh my. How I remember hating travelling in the car with a little one. Your post is wonderful. It will be such a treasure in years to come. Your project sounds interesting. It would have been so nice to have good or even ok pictures of myself from years ago. I used to refuse to have my picture taken. I just love the picture of your sleeping baby. I know it won’t be of much comfort just now but my baby is 23 years old and it seems like yesterday that he was sleeping like that.

I used to love road trip with our No.1. She was such a great little-sleeping-all-the-way baby. To this day she is great in the car,it’s just when No.2 starts to scream she gets upset, too.
I hope No.2 grows out of this!

I used to be the same way, I would refuse to be on the photo.Always saying, NO. Always feeling like I am not prepared enough, not looking good enough…etc. I doesn’t really matter right now.

Happy Baby! Happy Puppy!! Oh my GOD. My husband and I used to LOVE road trips. For our honeymoon, we took a train out west and just drove around the western states for two weeks.

    Hahaha. Haha. Hahahahahaha.

I can’t remember who that person was.

My kids are good in the car. Great, really. (Knock wood.) But. Yeah. I get it why that Denny’s sign made you happy.

All great photos. The one of you sitting and the puppy in the crate made me smile. Been there done that. Though I’m usually the one hauling the crate out in the middle of the night to hose it down. ha. Or not so ha.

Oh, we love ‘flying baby’ in this house, too!

You are a good woman letting your husband get #3. I could not do it. There is only so much training I am prepared to do and frankly, I am all full up with little humans.

Your photos are amazing. Love the little starfish in the grass!

Simply beautiful. I decided to take more pictures of myself too, I take pictures of myself with my phone or webcam everyday. but seeing this, I really have to start using my good camera. I have a tripod, so I should just get to it…

I am going to look at those gorgeous pictures again.

you know, it is really not that bad if your finally get into it. many of my pictures are very spontaneous. in the middle of playing with my kids, doing the dishes or reading a book I stop, take the camera out, snap a picture, and go back to what I had been doing. sometimes I think for days about an idea for a shot… it’s crazy how it works out sometimes!
