Visiting Nevada – Day One: Reno

Last Friday we had left our place for a road trip. We hadn’t done any serious traveling for a really long time. Leaving the house I was really sceptic about the trip. I wasn’t very thrilled about the vision of us being stuck for hours in the car with two small kids where one of them hates being in the car seat for longer than 30 minutes. Surprisingly enough the drive itself wasn’t that bad.

I have never been to Reno or Las Vegas but from what my husband had told me about those two places I kind of knew what to expect and I didn’t expect a lot.

First of all I had expected that most of our time we will spend in the hotel room dealing with cranky babies, but we didn’t. We’d stayed at Circus Circus. As we had figured it out later it wasn’t the best choice but at least there was plenty to do just inside and we didn’t have to drag the kids to different places looking for interesting things to do. Every hour or so there was a short show for kids. The first one we went to see was so loud I had thought our No. 2 will go deaf, so we left pretty quick.

We met in-laws for early dinner as they were on their own road trip (not for pleasure, though) passing through Nevada. We walked around the main street, took some pictures and enjoyed the refreshing evening breeze. It was a great day and our kids were awesome. They couldn’t behave any better considering the 5 hours in the car and scorching heat we had to deal with on the way up there and when we finally got there.

Short story and plenty of photos from that day in the slideshow below. Enjoy! 🙂

Tomorrow I’ll try to post second slideshow and a few words about the second day of our trip which was AWESOME!!! If we could I wouldn’t mind staying there forever, opening a small caffe restaurant for tourists, buying some horses and just enjoying my life… not sure if I would be able to survive the weather, though.

  1. Sounds like a good get a way! I had friends who used to live in Reno and visited there a few times!

    1. It was a great trip. Didn’t expect it will go that good. The worst thing was the way back. Everybody was really tired and cranky and we had to stop almost every hour to feed our No. 2. That was the hardest part of this entire trip!

  2. My husband and I went to the Reno / Tahoe area for our honeymoon! And, I would agree, it was a lot more fun than I would have expected!

Ahhhhh- yeah, and to think Reno is actually much nicer than Vegas. All of Southern NV isn’t my fav, but we are stuck here for the time being. I like the northern part of the state better- but there are just a handful of places I would like to be for the long term. You probably would have been happier at the Peppermill or Grand Sierra Resort. Those are in a bit nicer areas of Reno- although the south part of Reno is probably my favorite.

Just viewed the slide show. Looks like you hit V.C.- one of my most favorite places on the planet. We used to live about 6 miles down the back side of the canyon from there & would go up there every weekend to take the boy to the train store & hit the fudge shop. LOVE IT there! In fact- the hubs used to volunteer with their FD back in the day before becoming full time.
