KISIEL – we’ve been talking about this dessert for a while now. We, means me and Polish Mama on the Prairie.
Finally today I got the chance to make one. I can’t say I really enjoyed it, because the flavor I had was kind of weird – “cola” (coca-cola), and it coloured my tongue blue 😉
What’s kisiel ?
First of all it’s not only Polish dessert. People eat it in Russia, Ukraine, Lithuania, Latvia, Finland, and Germany.
Second of all it’s a soup. Yep. It’s a fruit soup thickened with corn starch or potato starch. In Poland we use potato starch since it’s more common and easier to get that corn starch. It is a simply sweetened fruit juice (whichever you like) and a starch… It’s easy to make at home 🙂 I tried a few times and it came out delicious. I loved kisiel made with fresh black or red currant juice…. Yumm!!!
In many european stores you can get it in a small package that needs only hot water and it’s ready to eat.
I guess these days I’m too lazy, or just don’t have enough time to experiment with foods since my loved one is very picky I prefere to make things that I know he will like… I save myself bunch of extra time, and nerves… 😉
Kisiel is very similar to budyń (pudding). Pudding has a milk base when kisiel is mostly fresh juice (flavored water).
Ok, time to stop talking… Pictures are waiting…

Oh I didn’t give it to her since It was very very very arificial with the whole “cola” flavour… I prefere make it myown and give it to her, or buy something like you just had, fruity flavour… maybe next time. I’ll enjoy it more, too. 🙂
Lol. Lool. Yesterday (or was it the day before yesterday?) Polish Mama on the Prairie made budyń and made me craving one, but all I had was kisiel. So I ate it. Today it’s you making me craving some kisiel and all I have is budyń xD
lol… now I’m left with no kisiel, and no budyń… so we better stop talking about it, because very soon I’ll end up craving something and having non 😉

Z serem… You know, white cheese (ricotta this time as a substitute), egg yolk, vanilla extract, and sugar… Drizzled with raspberry syrup. Don’t worry, I won’t talk about it anymore… Maybe tomorrow. Hugs!
Yumm!!! You made my sooo jealous!!! those are the best – white cheese, egg yolk, vanilla… mhmhmmmm… OMG! I better stop looking at this blog for a while because I can’t stand it anymore… too much talking about good polish food 😉
lol Ok, I will talk about something else. I like the wood in your photos on your kitchen. Is that your counter? Or a butcherblock?
finally somebody said that that counter is nice 🙂 my husband hates it, but that the charm of living in rented or I should have said given as a part of your salary
appartment. We have no influence of what kind of appliances we will get :-/
No, it’s beautiful. I love wood. I hate my counter now. We just moved so for now, I have to deal with it. I don’t know how long we will live in this house, so I don’t know if we will keep the counter as is or not. But I would love to replace it and put up a lot more wood in the house. You know those Polish countryside restaurants that are wood from floor to ceiling? Love those. I want my house like that. That’s what that counter makes me think of. Tell him, at least he doesn’t have one like mine, cream colored with weird blue flecks that make you think it’s dirty all the time when it’s not.
